Common FAQ's
Your prices are way too low, what's the catch?
The catch is that we have to move a very high volume of product very quickly
to maintain these prices. We buy in bulk so that we can receive prices
far below what other companies can purchase at, and we purchase from
the right suppliers and manufactures, and then process our products in
a very efficient manner to deliver top quality beading and jewelry
componets to you very quickly.
We
have a small and dedicated staff consisting of family members that have
been in the jewelry industry for many years, and we skip the
middlemen; Sure, you have heard this before, probably from companies
that are still in business.
Are your pearls real, they seem to be priced too low?
Yes, all
of our items are guaranteed 100% genuine, to include our cultured fresh
water pearls, and they are real inexpensive
because we buy our pearls directly from manufacturers in China and only
from direct importers. If you ever want to check a pearl, just gently
rub it on your teeth and there should be a noticeable grit texture to
the pearl.
What is the difference between a fresh water and a salt water pearl?
Besides
the price and method of collection, there are hardly any
differences. In fact unless you are a trained jeweler, most people will
not be able to tell even the difference! Freshwater pearls are
cultured in pearl farms, mostly in China now and other parts of Asia.
Natural
freshwater pearls occur in mussels for the same reason saltwater pearls
occur in oysters. Foreign material inside a mussel can't be expelled.
To reduce irritation, the mollusk coats the intruder with the same
secretion it uses for shell-building, nacre. To cultivate a pearl,
farmers slit the mussel and insert small pieces of live tissue from
another mussel.
Being an organic
gem, grooves, pits, or dents are expected in freshwater and saltwater
pearls. Freshwater pearls are popular for their colors: white,
silvery-white, pink, red, copper, brown, lavender, purple, green, blue,
and yellow. The most desirable are the pastel pinks, roses, lavenders,
and purples. Color comes from the mussel species and water quality.
Generally pearls assume the color of the shell in which they form, but
permanent dyes are used today for most colors.
Are your pearls dyed? Is the dye permanent?
The
pearls' iridescent color is created by a permanent chemical process
that takes 4 to 6 weeks. ALL colored pearls are treated this way. This treatment results in a permanent coloring
through the pearl nacre to the nucleus. The pearls color is stable,
which means that the color will not run or rub off; however dark
colored pearls may have excess color residue left over from the dye
process, so you may want to wash your pearls before you use them.
Are your gemstone beads real?
Yes
they are, we carry only top quality gemstone beads and we inspect all
of your items before sending them to you, ensuring that you receive the
best possible quality items.
Is your sterling silver real, the price seems too low?
If
the item is described as .925 sterling or .925 silver in the title of
description, then it is guaranteed to be 100% accurate as described.
Most such pieces will be stamped with .925 to indicate that this is the
case. Some custom pieces will not be stamped, however the suppliers,
manufacturers and importers that we deal with have be screened and
verified before ever conducting business with any of our family
business! Some silver items will not have a finish coat and may
tarnish when in contact with skin. This is normal and silver can be
shined easily using a silver buffing compound. ~ We purchase items
directly from India and China and in very large quantities.
When
a tool and die mold is struck onto a sheet of brass the resulting
design is called a stamping. They are used mostly as components in
jewelry design but are also great for decoupage, scapbooking, or used
as embellishments for crafts such as doll house design, and candle
making as insets. Molds from the late 1800s were used to create most
of our pieces.
The
technique of stamping produces a very light weight and durable piece
with high detail. They can be drilled with a regular drill and small
bit or a dress clip, hair bar or pin can be glued to the back of the
pieces. (we recommend E6000 by Goop).
As
a versatile jewelry and crafting component, we have seen these pieces
used in many different ways to include home decor, mold making with
precious metal clay as molds. Many crafters also use stampings
in frame and shadow box design, furniture detailing, curtain swag
detailing, and in wall art. The uses are endless, we hear of great new
ideas all the time.
We
try to answer as many questions about our products as possible.
However, due to our high volume of email, we are unable to give general
