Coco Avant Chanel

Coco Avant Chanel

Coco Avant Chanel (Coco Before Chanel) is finally coming to the U.S. on September 25th in select theatres!  If you didn’t see the Coco Chanel special on Lifetime with Shirley McLaine looking back on Chanel’s life (you should rent it), and watch this for a romantic view of Chanel in French from her time starting off as a singer, her love life and of course, becoming the famed designer we know her as today.

To celebrate the approach of this film I thought it would be fun to share some DIY projects that can be worn to the movie or anytime of course.  Plus, it is National Hat Month, so I am excited to start the week off with how Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel started her fashion career off, as a milliner and then became the designer of women’s classics (that were seen as avant-garde in her time) that women in covet today.  This is a fun project to update any hat that you have in your house, or get a fun one from the dollar store to add some edge and make it look like you spent some good money.

The project: Hat Band

What you need:

Thread

Needle

Bugle Beads

Seed Beads

Scissors

Hat (You can probably do any style hat, but since Coco is using a straw hat in this photo…I thought I would go straw:)
